maf sensor cel issues

i just bought a intake on ebay and my maf sensor doesn't fit on it so i remodifed it to fit in and now i'm having cel problems i went to an autopart store to have it check out and they said it was my maf sensor reading to lean so i try to relocate and change position of the sensor just to see what would happen it stayed off for about a good 40 miles and then came back on i don't know what else to do but to buy me a new one everybody is telling me to get a injen intake cause that will solve the problem if anybody has anyother solutions hit me up
